A lot of times things spread like wildfire across Facebook and
many times they are false stories or statements. Yesterday I received one that look legitimate regarding dog treats that are killing dogs. The investigative reporter in me came out and I researched it and it’s all true and very sad. I’m telling you about it so you are aware and so we can all spread the word and try to save a few dogs today.
Things are getting pretty serious in dog land. So far there have been over 2,000 reports of dogs dying and many others that have serious health issues due to eating certain pet treats made in China. The FDA made an attempt to get samples from the factories but the factories didn’t like that idea and decided the tests should be done in Chinese laboratories. So far we have no results and because of that the FDA will not recall these products. And we are not talking about some fly-by-night companies here; some of the names include Purina and Del Monte.
What’s a pet parent to do? That’s easy, you immediately stop useing/purchasing any pet foods or treats that are made in China and to error on the side of caution I would also recommend not purchasing chicken or duck jerky regardless of where it’s made. If you look at the link from the FDA you can read all the horrific stories of dog owners who have experienced issues with these treats. I will warn you that it is heartbreaking.
I’m not done yet. There is a wonderful campaign going on at Change.org to get these products pulled. They only need about 5,800 more signatures. It’s for a good cause as maybe we could save the lives of more pets. Imagine how many pet owners have lost pets and have no idea of why they died. People need to be aware of this. I have already signed the petition and you will see it posted on my Facebook page or you can click on the link below.
On a lighter note I’m always impressed with the wonderful ideas
that my children’s teachers come up with. Will is in first grade this year and his class has recently read the book “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Today he brought home this adorable growing beanstalk that he planted at school. When I asked him his favorite part of the story he said he liked it when Jack climbed the
beanstalk. He also added that he didn’t think bread would taste very good with bones in it.
“Be he alive or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread.”
Have a good day friends!
