left walking in lines would they still act the same way?
I got to thinking about this and he’s right. Would you walk up behind someone so close that your nose was almost touching the back of the persons head in front of you <tailgating>? Would you quickly run around someone, cutting through all the lines <passing>? Would you yell really loud for people to get out of your way <honking>? Would you hold up your middle finger to those not following the rules of the road <flipping the bird>?
Odds are you wouldn’t do those things because it would be disrespectful, because we are all humans and are all going somewhere for some reason. Besides that it would be a whole lot easier to get your ass kicked (or shot around here). When some people are in vehicles they feel
invincible, like they have a bubble around them that protects them from having to behave or follow rules.
But this could make you change your mind about people driving poorly too. “Excuse me, can I please go around you. My baby is sick and I’m trying to get him to the doctor.” Or, a little old man asks for directions or a woman with a small child needs to find a restroom or a person is
late for work or drunk or stoned or lost or hungry. You see where I’m going with this? You just never know why people act the way they do on the road, maybe they have a reason or maybe they don’t.
I think the same is true on the information highway/Internet. People make comments that they would never say to someone’s face or in public. They are cowards that hide behind screen names and live to
make people’s lives miserable. Facebook isn’t so bad because you probably know the majority of the people you are friends with but Twitter and other sites are not for the faint of heart. It’s brutal out there. Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not or the karma train will eventually run your ass over.
But the biggest lesson to learn is that you can’t control what other people do. On the road or on the Internet they will do and say as they wish. The only thing you can control is how you react. Are you going
to let them get you all worked up or are you just going to sit back and enjoy the ride? We only get so many trips around the sun, down the freeway and on the Information highway, let’s not let them be wasted trips.
School called yesterday, it was the nurse telling me I needed to come to school to pick up Will. He collided with another kid at recess and had a huge lump on the side of his head. They couldn’t get the swelling to go down. While his teacher was walking him to the front office she asked if he would feel better resting at home. Will replied, “This will be perfect. I’ll get to watch whatever I want on TV for a couple hours before my
sister gets home. TV time will make me feel better.”
Nice move Will. Why couldn’t he just cry like normal kids?!
Last night I got a text message from Will's teacher, “How is Will doing? Is he enjoying his TV time?”
Nice move Will’s teacher. Why can’t you be serious like normal teachers?!
Just imagine what kind of cool species we would have if these creatures could breed.
