I love my kids, I really do but thankfully they went back to school today. I’ve been with them 24/7 since December 20th, when they stated
their holiday break. Yesterday I knew I desperately needed them to go back to school when I had to get a broom to get Will’s sock off of the ceiling fan. He had no idea how it got up there. This followed up the incident from the night before when he was caught standing on the kitchen table.
And I swear that if I hear the theme song from ‘Hey Jesse’ one more time or have to watch another episode of ‘Kickin It’ or ‘The Regular Show’ I’m going to blow a gasket. I’m sick of plugging and unplugging electronic devices, sick of the bickering and sick of cooking, cleaning and laundry.
Today I dedicate to me and I will sit in this recliner with Animal Planet on the TV and a full pot of coffee at my side and I will write. Write a blog, work on my book and just soak in the silence and try to get some of my sanity back.
Yesterday we had a ‘practice day’ for the kids. They went to bed at their normal time the night before and I got them up at the usual time when they get up for school. Within twenty minutes of being up Mac
was sleeping the chair. I woke her up a few times and then resorted to using a squirt bottle to spray her every time she fell asleep. She wasn’t impressed with the squirt bottle method but it kept her awake.
When you don’t have school for three weeks you kind of get out of the groove. Last night when it was time to do her chores she decided she had a headache and had to lay down. Will faked a stomach ache before bed. There was no way either one of them were staying home another day. My face actually hurt from smiling when I watched them get on the
bus this morning. The bus driver waved at me, I think he knew how happy I was.
I read a blog this morning that really pissed me off. The gist of the blog was that parents that are happy when their kids return to school after breaks should be ashamed of themselves. That parents should always enjoy their time with their kids and that they are basically not good
people if they enjoy it when their kids go back to school.
The person that wrote that blog can bite me! Like I said I love my kids but they are bouncing off the walls around here. It’s too cold to go outside and play. At least at school they can run around the gym, hang out with their friends and learn a thing or two. Two weeks off for a Christmas break is ridiculous in my opinion and then adding on snow day’s just makes it worse.
I am a good parent & I love my kids but I did do a happy dance this morning and I don’t regret that at all.
At the Feeder
The Polar Vortex sure shook things up for a few days. It wasn’t as cold here in KY as it was in the Midwest but -25 is still cold in my book. When the temperature dropped below zero I saw an influx of birds at my feeders. And not just a few. The birds that amazed me the most were the Gold Finches. I knew they flew south for the winter but I thought they flew further south than this. I’ve had a whole flock (26 birds) at my feeders for the past few days. I also have been feeding a flock of doves (18) and of course the regulars: Cardinals, Blue Jays, Oriels, Sparrows, Redheaded Woodpeckers and others. I will now bore you with some
pictures because I got a really cool Nikon Camera for Christmas from my hubbie and kids.
