This mild winter has left us with an infestation of boxelder bugs that just won’t quit. For those of you that don’t know what boxelder bugs are: they are harmless bugs, they don’t eat household items and they don’t bite or sting, they are just plain annoying. I frequently vacuum them up but the next day I find more. One of our cats (Rose) eats them but there are just too many for her to keep up with. If anyone knows of a good boxelder “repellent”please
let me know as I am tired of fighting this battle.
Super Bowl Sunday
Today is not just Sunday, it’s Super Bowl Sunday! I’m sure many people are excited and planning on hosting or attending parties today. I’m not a fan of either team playing but may watch just so I can see the commercials. It’s no fun watching the biggest game of the year when your team isn’t playing. I’m
still pouting about the Packer’s last loss – I want a do over.
The other thing we have to look forward to on Super Bowl Sunday is the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. It’s just little balls of fluff playing a fake game of football, seriously?! Sometimes the things we watch amaze me. (And don't lie - you watch it too!)
Happy Birthday Facebook
Yesterday Facebook turned eight! I can’t believe they didn’t do something spectacular to celebrate. It’s difficult for me to remember what life was like before Facebook. My oldest child is the same age. She will grow up with this crazy, ever changing technology. If our phones are “smart” today what will they be in ten years! And someday I will tell her stories about what life was like before Facebook, smartphones, iPods, iPads, 3D televisions and laptops. And she will laugh just like I laughed at my mom when she told me
about black and white TV’s, eight-track tapes and record players.
Today we mourn the loss of 20,000 pounds of chocolate that left firefighters slipping and sliding through the melted gooiness at the Sarris Candy factory in Canonsburg Pennsylvania yesterday. Thankfully no one was hurt and they will be back in business soon. If you’ve never experienced Sarris
chocolate, you’re missing out; they really know how to do chocolate. My favorite is the chocolate covered pretzels that many organizations use for fund
raising in the West Virginia area.
On Friday my daughter brought home a gift certificate for a free single-serve pizza from Happy Joes Pizza. She earned this award for beating her
reading goals at school. We were very proud of her. I think these award systems are great and wonderful but I have to wonder if struggling families have a
difficult time with it. The gift certificates are “dine in only” which means you actually have to go there and sit down to eat. I think the goal is for you to bring the entire family to the event so you spend lots of money. That’s what happened to us. I feel bad for the kids that meet their reading goals and earn the certificates but never get to use them because their families can’t afford to treat the whole family to a night out.
