I’m planning on redecorating Will’s room, he wants a camo/army
theme so I’ve been looking daily at Pintrist for different ideas. There is one “pin” that drives me bat shit crazy. People go to stores that carry paint samples, you know, the cards that have the different shades of a color on them. They then take as many as they can and they glue them to their walls to create this unique work of art.
From a distance it looks okay but let’s be realistic here, who the hell wants to glue 500 paint samples onto a wall? No thank you. And besides that in my book it’s borderline stealing. Yeah sure the samples are free but they are supposed to be free for honest, hardworking people who really want to see what colors look best on their walls. You’re supposed to take a few– not one of everything. That’s just an unwritten rule. Just watch, pretty soon there will be limits on how many you can take.
It’s like toilet paper or paper towels in public restrooms. Do people need a sign telling them not to take all of it? So far this isn’t the case but it seems eventually good free things like paint samples get ruined for
the rest of us.
And other than walls people are using paint chips to decorate nearly everything, there are entire web sites set up for this purpose. I’ve
seen: cards, wreaths, book marks, seating cards for weddings, business cards, garland, gift tags, earrings, mobiles and even origami for crying out loud. Get a life people and find yourself a different craft project to work on.
I even saw a site where people print bible verses on paint sample
cards for kids. What kind of message is that sending to the kids? Thou shalt not steal….paint chips dammit! And by the way, if you hand me a business card made out of paint samples you took from Wal-Mart, don’t expect me to be a patron of your business because I’ll know right off the bat that you’ll probably rip me off too! And if you’re at a barbeque and your paint chip earrings burst up in flames, well you deserve it. And if you invite me to a wedding and the seating cards are printed on paint chips I’m walking the hell right out, you can give my chicken cordon blue and nasty green bean almandine to someone else.
Some people who blog about this “new trend” justify their actions
by claiming they don’t clean out a single store they go to several stores and take one of each sample from all the stores. Pretty soon stores are going to start charging for paint samples and then I’m going to be really pissed off.
And don’t even get me started with what they’re doing with the free paint sticks, it’s appalling.
