When I was in junior high I was unhappy with the fingernail polish that was available at the stores. It chipped off to easily and black was rarely available. I was really into wearing black and writing sad poems at the time. Black was a fitting color for me. One day I decided to literally take matters into my own hands. I want out to my dad’s shed and grabbed some masking tape and a can of black spray paint. The results were horrifying. The masking tape didn’t stick very well so I ended up with flat black nails and fingers. It was embarrassing to say the least. That’s probably the only thing I don’t recommend black spray paint for!
I received a letter in the mail last week from SafeLink giving me information about a new Federal program that allows low income individuals to get free cell phones and minutes without having to sign any contracts. To qualify you must earn $15,080 or less
per person, per year or be enrolled in a program such as a free lunch program at school, federal public housing, Medicaid or others. They even gave me an extra application form to give to a friend.
You receive a Motorola, LG, or Samsung phone and can receive 250 free minutes per month. You can also purchase additional minutes at a reduced rate. These are basically trac-phones but they do have a texting feature, long distance, directory assistance and voice mail all for fee.
I love this idea for the older generation who may not be able to afford having a landline in their home. It would provide them piece of mind in knowing that they would be able to call 911 or family in case of an emergency. The minutes would come in handy for a person to be able to call to make appointments or to check in with family members.
I don’t feel right about the rest of the world having these free phones because I think they will take advantage of the program and it’s just another incentive for them to not get a job or to get off of welfare.
Drug dealers, prostitutes and thieves will all benefit from this program. They probably already have Smartphones but they can give these phones to the people that work for them or even to their own children. You only qualify for one phone per family from SafeLink but there are other programs like
Assurance Wireless that are not connected that
offer the same type of program for free. So if they play their cards right they can get phones from different providers free of charge.
Years ago we were able to survive without taking a phone everywhere we went, why is a phone now a requirement for people? Able bodied individuals should have to EARN these phones and other welfare benefits. There are plenty of volunteer organizations that could benefit from the help and these people would be doing something with their lives.
On more than one occasion I’ve been behind a person at the grocery store using food stamps and or WIC to pay. Some of their food choices were expensive – steak, shrimp and lobster to name a few. Other choices were extremely unhealthy like loads of junk food that would provide no nutritional value. They could have had two carts full of food if they would have bought good, healthy food. So they eat unhealthy food, get sick or obese and then we pay for their medical care and the phone they use to make their appointments with. Land of the “free”is a good way to describe the USA. Welfare is supposed to be a stepping stone but who in their right mind would want to provide for themselves when they are eating and living better than the rest of the population?
Just a point to ponder on this fantastic Sunday. Have a great day passengers!
