It seems William has recovered from his bout with Influenza Type A. In fact, except for a cough and cold symptoms he is pretty much back to
normal. After refusing to do his homework on Friday night and being given several warnings, this was the conversation we had;
Me: (Hand cupped to my ear) Will, do you hear that sound?
Will: (After listening intently) Yes, I hear it. What is it Mom?
Me: That’s the sound of your video game privileges being sucked
Will: (Plugging his ears) I hate that sound Mom. Make it stop!
Needless to say he eventually did finish his homework. He didn’t
want to know what it would sound like to lose the rest of his privileges. Like nails on a chalkboard I would imagine.
Knock on wood the rest of us are still healthy although Mac keeps trying to convince herself that she is sick. At least eight times over the weekend she had me check her temperature and once asked for a“bucket” in case she got sick.
Mac’s 10th birthday isn’t until March but we are already in the planning stages. This year she decided she wants to do a party at the Dubuque Humane Society and in lieu of presents she wants people to bring
donations for the animal shelter. I couldn’t be prouder of her for coming up with such a generous plan. The Humane Society actually hosts birthday parties (for a fee) and they even supply workers who give you a tour, supply a cake, organize games for the kids and they supply an animal for the party guests to play with.
We’ve done some interesting parties in the past but this will be a first. Hopefully we will be able to make it out of there with no additional
animals. I cave pretty easy when it comes to animals and it wouldn’t take much begging for me to give in.
A Complicated Life in a Small Town is now available on Barnes and Noble web site as well as Amazon. If you haven’t read it now would be a good time as the sequel, God Save Us All, will be coming out shortly. Don’t miss the bus, read it now. And if you received a brand new Nook or Kindle for Christmas you should buy a copy of my book so you can show it to everyone you know. (That was a shameless plug but I couldn’t help myself!)
