Yesterday I was straightening up the living room when I noticed a young man, early 20’s knocking on my neighbors door holding a clip board. This could only mean one thing, he was selling something. I immediately went into “salesman” alert and turned the television and lamp off
and I tipped toed around the house ducking when I went past any windows. I wanted to clean the bathtub but the sound of water running might make him think I was taking a shower and then he might sit on the porch and wait for me. So I didn’t do anything, I just sat still on the couch and waited.
My clever plan was to not answer the door when he knocked even though the dog would be freaking out. Dam, my car was in the
driveway that was a dead giveaway. But too bad, I was standing my ground this time and I wasn’t going to answer the door. We get door-to-door salesmen here all the time and religious groups too and I hate it. They sell everything from carpet cleaning devices to satellite TV. They are taught not to take no for an answer and they do a good job of trying to get you to change your mind when you do say no.
After a few minutes past there still was no knock on the door. I checked out the window and the man was gone. The nerve of that guy! What the hell was wrong with my house that he didn’t stop here?! My car was
in the driveway for crying out loud. I didn’t get the opportunity to “not answer the door” because he didn’t even knock. What an asshole. I probably would have bought whatever he was selling too.
When I Grow Up
I love it when my kids start a sentence with “when I grow up” because what usually follows is something defiant like “I’ll never clean my room” or “I’ll eat whatever I want.” But today Will said something out of the ordinary. As we were nearing his school he said “When I grow up I’m going to buy that house right there on the corner and then I’ll call
in sick to work every once in a while and I’ll walk my kids to school. And some days I’ll walk over and visit you mom.” Awwww.
God Save Us All
The sequel, God Save Us All, is already in the hands of my publisher, as soon as I have a publishing date I will let you know but I’m sure it will be a few months. April Guadiana has been contacted to do the cover which really excites me because she did the cover for the first book and I really love it. She is very talented.
I stressed myself out over the title a bit. I don’t want people to think it’s a holy book or anything about God because it isn’t. But then again that could increase sales. I wonder if books containing the word God in the title do better than those without. I’ll let you know. In the meantime I’m going to work hard on the last book of the trilogy so you don’t have to wait so long in-between this time. I have another book in the works too, a novel on a completely different topic.
Looks like it’s time to get the oil changed and some new wiper blades on the book writing express bus. I’ll honk when I’m ready to pick you up. I sure hope you get on again; we had such a great time with the last bus trip.
