A few days ago I received an email from a scammer. These emails
are usually designed to tug at your heartstrings but this one is so poorly
written that I didn’t even feel sorry for the person. Here is the email:
This message is coming to you with great depression due to my
state of discomfort. I came down here to Manila, Philippines with my family for a short vacation but unfortunately, we were mugged and robbed at the park of the hotel where we stayed. All cash, credit cards and cell phones were stolen off us but luckily for us we still have our lives and passports.
We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not
helping issues at all and our flight leaves in less than 12hrs from now but we are having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills about $1,600. Can you help us out? Get back to me immediately to let you know the easiest way to get the fund to us.
We are depressed at the moment.
What a crock, love the part about being “depressed at the moment.” I wonder how many people actually reply to these emails and send money to them. With scammers of this caliber it’s like there is a fiction writer buried inside of them dying to get out. It’s too bad they are using their words for evil instead of good. Hope you enjoyed your vacation Rose; it must have been a really nice place for the hotel bill to be $1,600.
Let me give it a shot:
I’m sorry I had to park the bus, I can no longer afford the gas or to make the payments. I am very depressed at the moment. All I have to eat is
this jar of Nutella so I should be dead in no time. At night I can’t see
anything as someone ripped me off at a rummage sale and sold me flashlights that didn’t work. I’m using a pile of my books for a pillow as I can’t afford the insurance to do book signings anywhere. A couple thousand dollars would make me feel better and might get me out of this depression. Get back to me and I’ll send you details on how you can send me money.
Dying on the bus
Too funny, I suck at this too! That’s a shame because I could have been known far and wide as Tammer The Scammer.
Have a SUPER day : )
