The adult exchange is done with cards, the lowest number gets to pick first and last. You can either open a gift or steal a gift from someone else. This year the guys were fighting over a pair of hunting socks, a crazy screwdriver and a six pack of beer and lottery
The girl gifts are always the best, beautifully wrapped and always something great inside. This year my gift to give was an electric S’mores Maker complete with graham crackers, Hershey bars and marshmallows. My sister wanted it but so did I! But then I saw a set of Pyrex that I wanted more and then something even better: a pair of soft and cozy PJ’s with a pillow and
pillow spray from Bath and Body Works. There were lighted branches, bottles of wine, jewelry, a Double Dipper Crock Pot and others. It was hard to choose.
My sister took the S’mores Maker much to the delight of her young daughter. I was going to steal it back when it was my turn but my mother threatened me! Is that even fair? She said if I took the S’mores Maker from my sister then there would be one less present under the tree for me from her at Christmas time. Bah Humbug! I’m 42 years old; could my mother’s words actually mean anything to me?! Dam right they could!
So I took the PJ’s from an unsuspecting party but then my cousin Michelle took the S’mores Maker even though my sister tried to convince her that her daughters Christmas would be completely ruined without the gift. Michelle didn’t bat an eye; with four little boys of her own she wasn’t falling for that.
So she took the S’mores Maker and my sister ended up with the Pyrex which pissed off another cousin but oh well, that’s just the way it goes. The gift exchange
is a free-for-all and you are at the edge of your seat the entire time because you don’t know, until the very end if you will get the gift you want. But I guess it was a win-win for me as I will still get everything I want from my mom as I obeyed her wishes and maybe my little sister will re-gift the Pyrex to me
at Christmas. (A girl can dream!)
When we got home, my son was acting up and I said, “If you keep that up there will be one less present for you under the Christmas tree this year.” “Wow”, I thought to myself, “after all of these years I still copy what my mother says and does!” It is true that you become your mother no matter how hard you try not to. To make it up to my children maybe I will buy one extra gift this year instead of one less….maybe an electric S’mores Maker!
On another note I attended a cookie party on Sunday. The food was excellent, we played games including JINGLE BINGO and there were a ton of prizes
and at the end we exchanged cookies; six cookies per person X’s 12 guests. There also was a gift exchange that was so much fun. My niece read“Twas the Night
before Christmas” and each time she said the word “AND” you passed your exchange gift to the right and each time she said “THE” you passed your gift to the left. It was a good time.
Have a good day passengers and a special welcome to my baby sister who finally climbed aboard!
