It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to
restaurants but yesterday I must say I found one that I have to tell you about. It’s located in Stone City Iowa and it is called The General Store. If you are familiar with the work of famous artist Grant Wood you have probably seen the painting titled Stone City. One of the buildings in the picture just happens to be The General Store. On Sunday afternoons they have open mic and my husband and daughter typically go. It’s usually a dad, daughter date thing but yesterday
our whole family went.
The historic building is tastefully decorated and
there is a fireplace in the dining area. The food was exceptional; I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich with waffle fries. It was served on a tin plate wrapped in tin foil. While we were enjoying our meals various artists got up on the stage and played guitar and sang. When we were finished the waitress brought
out a block out of wood with a flaming metal container on top. She handed us wooden skewers and a bag of marshmallow and we roasted marshmallows right at our table while watching the Puppy Bowl on the big screen. It was so much fun.
At a table near ours people were eating out of a
tackle box! I looked on the menu and it said it was an assortment of Earl Rings, River Rocks, Waffle Fries, Mushrooms and Ranch. It is big enough to server 4
people or more and the cost is $15.95. I’m assuming Earl Rings are onion rings and River Rocks are deep fried cheese balls. Next time I am for sure ordering
the Tackle Box for our appetizers. The menu also lists a Bait Bucket: Sweet potato fries, fried mushrooms, River Rocks, & Earl Rings with ranch. Feeds 2 for $8.95
My husband and daughter got on stage and did a
couple songs and brought the house down. My husband has an amazing voice and he received many well deserved pats on the back but as long as he continues to sing with Mac, he will always have to be in her shadow. It’s adorable watching an eight-year-old, spunky red-headed girl sing, It’s 5:00 Somewhere and Red Solo Cup. The crowd went wild. I’m looking forward to going back to this restaurant again and taking friends and family so I can show it off. If you are ever in the area, you have to stop at The General Store in Stone City Iowa. It’s only a stone’s throw away. (ha, ha.)
Madonna’s halftime show sure was cool. No
wardrobe malfunctions, she didn’t dress like a sleaze, and the lip syncing was so good it really looked like she was singing and the dancers were flawless.
It’s amazing that this woman is 53 years old and can still dance around like she does. I felt pain just watching her and even had to turn the channel once
because I was starting to feel old.
I have a busy day planned; I will tell you all about it tomorrow. Have a good one!
